Dossier /07 Microfinance · Lending Live

Mwanzo Credit

Most people never find out what they can borrow, because finding out means going to a branch.

A lending front door for a Kenyan microfinance business: what the products are, what a loan would actually cost, and how to start one — without a branch visit.

01 — Problem

Lending fails at discovery, not at underwriting.

A microfinance lender can have good products and still lose most of its potential borrowers before any conversation happens. People do not know which product fits their situation, what it would cost, or what they need to bring.

The traditional answer is a branch visit — which is a high price to pay just to ask a question. Most people simply do not make the trip.

The web front door is not marketing here. It is the qualification step.

02 — System

Understand, estimate, apply.

The site is organised around the sequence a borrower actually moves through, rather than around the lender’s internal product taxonomy.

01Products

Logbook and asset finance, title deed, business, and personal or emergency loans.

02Match

Enough plain description for a borrower to recognise their own situation.

03Calculator

A borrower sizes the loan and sees the cost before speaking to anyone.

04Requirements

What to bring, stated up front rather than discovered at a desk.

05Apply

A guided application that starts the relationship online.

03 — Interface

The front door.

Built to be read on a phone, by someone deciding whether this lender is worth contacting at all.

Mwanzo Credit interface

mwanzocredit.co.ke — the live site.

04 — Documentation

Build detail still to be written up.

The site is live. The implementation notes, integrations and any back-office work behind it are not yet documented here to the standard of the other dossiers.
